The Philippine Society of Extracorporeal Technologists Inc. (PhilSECT) opened its doors once more to conduct the 2nd PhilSECT Convention. Perfusionists, fellow RMTs, doctors, and nurses have all gathered at the Novotel Manila Araneta Center for the 2-day event on March 2 and 3 to celebrate this year’s theme: Philippine Perfusion: Here and Beyond. MEDTEK was among the sponsors that had their booths set up, giving us the opportunity to promote our i-STAT analyzer to roaming attendees.
The day began with the welcoming remarks from PhilSECT’s newly-elected president, Jonathan Acay. In his speech, he talked about the importance of the convention and how PhilSECT managed to gather dedicated medical professionals to the occasion. After which, he thanked all the participants and delegates for attending the remarkable event. Dr. Aquileo Rico, MD, started the session by discussing cardiopulmonary bypass techniques in aortic surgery. Followed by him was Japanese guest Takahiro Matsui who talked about the use of integrated arterial line filter oxygenator. A 15-minute coffee break then ensued and the rest of the day was filled will talks from numerous distinguished doctors across multiple medical fields. The day ended with a gala dinner and day two commenced the morning after.
Jonathan Abuan, the previous president of PhilSECT, began the second half of the convention with a morning prayer. Guest speaker Mei Kaey kickstarted day two with a talk on HMS. Korean doctor of medicine Yang Hyun Cho then proceeded with his talk on Enzymatic ACT determination. Eight more sessions ensued and the event finished successfully with the awarding ceremonies.
PhilSECT’s convention is only one among the exemplary reasons why such event is important to Filipino healthcare professionals. This just proves that our country’s medical societies never falter in their mission to further improve the lives of the Filipino people towards the ideal healthcare.
