Metro Manila Mayors: Extend GQC Until End of 2020

MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia announced last October 19 that the 17 mayors of the Metro Manila Council recommend for the coronavirus task force to extend the GCQ in Metro Manila until the end of 2020. The current GCQ status in place is scheduled to expire on October 31.

Suggested Quarantine Adjustments

This proposal was made in hopes of improving our economy. One of the recommended shifts concerns the curfew which is currently 10 PM to 5 AM. The mayors hope to extend public activities and shorten the curfew to 12 AM to 4 AM. The age restriction for citizens allowed outside has already changed from 21 – 60 years old to 18 – 65 years old.

“It’s more difficult to do a full modified GCQ and then you tighten restrictions. When resistance builds up, it’s hard to control – unlike if we stay at GCQ and we gradually adjust capacities,” Garcia stated in the virtual conference. “This is so our economy can be revived.”

Decreasing NCR Cases

Octa Research Group published their report on October 20 wherein it was found that the COVID-19 cases in the NCR are steadily declining in number. The region was able to keep the coronavirus reproduction number to below 1. Metro Manila has a reproduction of 0.70%, lower than the 0.80% rating of the whole country.
