On November 5, 2020, Guido David of Octa Research Group stated the projected rise in cases for the upcoming holiday seasons. In his interview with DZMM, he shared that Filipinos are more inclined to go outside near the end of the year due to fatigue caused by prolonged indoor quarantine. This predicted behavior could possibly trigger an uptick in COVID-19 positive cases.
Our Current Status
The Octa Research Group, which is closely monitoring our country’s COVID-19 statistics and trends, shared that we are experiencing a steady decrease in the number of our daily reported cases. This is especially noticeable in the case of our country’s COVID-19 epicenter, which now reports an average of 490 cases recorded per day.
The researchers highlighted our LGUs’ role in keeping these numbers down, particularly during the holiday season. “Uptick of cases is possible, but what is important is a quick response so that if ever there’s a slight uptick, it would not worsen and there would be no surge,” stated Guido David during the Nov. 5 interview.
By the first quarter of 2021, it is projected that the whole country will be under MGCQ. Despite the loosening of quarantine guidelines, health experts still emphasize that everyone must continuously practice strict health protocols. This would include remaining indoors as much as possible and maintaining social distancing and wearing face mask and shields when in public.
Our country is now making slow progress towards the new normal. It is crucial at this time to maintain our momentum and successfully detect and isolate the positive cases for immediate treatment.
